Will Smith and Johnny Depp were among the celebrities who celebrated Andrea Bocelli’s illustrious career at the singer’s three-day concert event at the Teatro del Silenzio in Lajatico, Italy.
The event, titled Andrea Bocelli 30: The Celebration, featured a number of special guests, commemorating Bocelli’s three decades in the music industry.
On the second day of the celebration, both Smith and Depp appeared on stage separately. On Wednesday, July 17, Smith, 55, delivered a spoken-word rendition of the classic 1940s show tune “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” accompanied only by a piano and illuminated by a blue light.
A video posted on Bocelli’s Instagram Story showed Smith dressed in a grey suit, reading the lyrics to the audience in Italy.
Depp, 61, also performed that night, accompanying Bocelli on guitar for “En Aranjuez Con Tu Amor,” as a tribute to his late friend Jeff Beck. Depp wore sunglasses and a suit as he played an acoustic guitar, seated beside the celebrated tenor.
Other special guest performers during the weekend included, or are set to include on the final day, Friday, July 19, Ed Sheeran (who performed “Perfect Symphony” with Bocelli), Shania Twain, Russell Crowe, Laura Pausini, Nadine Sierra, Jon Batiste, and Brian May, among others.
Prior to the second day’s performances, Bocelli shared several behind-the-scenes clips on his Instagram Story.
These included a video of Depp and Smith, who had been spending time together on a yacht with Egyptian singer Ahmed Saad, greeting each other along with Smith’s son Jaden Smith.
After sharing a laugh and handshake, Depp also exchanged a handshake and quick hug with Jaden, saying, “I’ve heard so much about you.”
The Smiths were then seen conversing backstage with Bocelli’s sons Matteo and Amos, before Jaden, 26, shook hands with the singer’s daughter, Virginia.
At the end of the night, multiple performers, including Sheeran, Depp, Smith, Crowe, and members of the Bocelli family, gathered for a group photo, smiling and posing together.
The concert event, first announced in April, serves as a multi-day celebration of Bocelli’s 30-year career in his hometown. The musician expressed his desire to celebrate his career and life at the Teatro del Silenzio, surrounded by wonderful artists and friends.
The performances have been filmed and will be produced by Mercury Studios, Maverick, Almud, Impact Productions, and CitySound & Events, resulting in a concert film directed by Sam Wrench. The film is scheduled for a fall release in theaters by Fathom.
Wrench commented in a press release, “You can’t get much more cinematic than Andrea Bocelli against the Tuscan space. I’m incredibly excited to bring this once-in-a-lifetime concert to cinemas around the world with his unique voice, this world-class team, and enviable list of special guests.”
Bocelli is set to release his Duets album on October 25, which will feature past collaborations with artists like Sheeran, Dua Lipa, and Jennifer Lopez, as well as new material with Twain, Chris Stapleton, Gwen Stefani, Marc Anthony, and others.
