Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, will transition to chairman of the board of trustees by January, stepping back from his current role as executive chairman.
The World Economic Forum announced a planned “governance evolution” transitioning from a founder-managed organization to one where the president and managing board take full executive responsibility.
Established by Klaus Schwab in 1971, the forum is renowned for its annual gathering of political and business leaders in Davos, Switzerland.
Klaus Schwab envisioned the World Economic Forum as a platform for policymakers and corporate leaders to tackle global issues and exchange leadership insights.
However, criticism has arisen over the years, with some viewing the forum as a gathering that exacerbates carbon emissions without substantial outcomes.
Last year’s conference theme, “Cooperation in a Fragmented World,” reflected a shift towards addressing immediate crises while advocating for sustainability.
