Kate Hudson is considering a potential revisit to one of her past films. The 45-year-old actress shared on Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday, July 17, that she and her former co-star Matthew McConaughey, 54, are open to the idea of making a sequel to their 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
When host Andy Cohen inquired about the possibility of a sequel, Hudson responded, “I think they’re always thinking about that.”
She mentioned that her involvement would depend on the quality of the script. “All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script,” said the *Glass Onion* star. “I think we’re both totally open, it has just never happened.”
The beloved film, which famously featured Hudson in a striking yellow dress, is based on the book of the same name by Michele Alexander and Jeannie Long.
It follows the characters Andie Anderson, a magazine writer played by Hudson, and Benjamin Barry, an advertising executive portrayed by McConaughey.
The plot centers around Andie writing an article on how to drive a man away in 10 days, while Benjamin bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him within the same timeframe.
In a 2020 interview, McConaughey expressed openness to returning for a potential sequel.
“I mean, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is teed up, you know, teed up for one that you could easily do a sequel. And that was a really good one. As far as romantic comedies go, that was a really good one,” the Oscar winner remarked.
He continued, “And it lasts! People still love that one. I enjoyed that one quite a bit.”
In a 2023 interview, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the movie, Hudson also touched on the topic of a sequel, stating,
“People always ask us [about a sequel] but there’s nothing in the works.” She noted her enjoyment of working with McConaughey, hinting at the possibility of future collaborations: “I love working with Matthew, so I’m sure at some point we’ll work together again.”
Reflecting on her character Andie’s potential future, Hudson said,
“My hope is that [Andie and Ben] are happy, they’ve got a bunch of kids, they got married, and they’re still playing Bullshit with his parents. If there was a sequel, I’m sure there would be some conflict in there somewhere.”
