On May 11, aespa, the emerging K-pop sensation, grabbed headlines with the announcement of postponing their highly anticipated concert slated for July 7, 2024, in Fukuoka, Japan.
The decision followed significant backlash from fans, particularly Chinese fans, citing the insensitivity of the chosen date.
July 7 holds profound significance in China as a day of mourning, commemorating historical events from the Sino-Japanese war.
The controversy ignited outrage, with CHINA NINGNING Bar, the largest fanbase dedicated to aespa’s Chinese member Ningning, spearheading the call for a change of date.
In response to mounting pressure, aespa’s management, SM Entertainment, opted to postpone the July 7 show while maintaining the scheduled performance on July 6.
